"For the first time in five weeks, I was actually able to nurse both of my babies without pain." That's the moment Christa still tears up about, and it came not from another sleepless night of trying, but from a few gentle minutes at our Indian Trail, NC office.
Christa is a self-described boy mom of four: a seven-year-old, a three-year-old, and twin baby boys. She's also a hairdresser who spends eight to nine hours a day on her feet. Her journey through a high-risk twin pregnancy and an exhausting newborn season is one we're honored to share, because so many parents in Indian Trail and across the Greater Charlotte area are quietly living some version of it.

A high-risk twin pregnancy, on her feet all day
"Twins don't run in our family, I've never had a high-risk pregnancy ever," Christa told us. "So I was very on edge about doing anything." But she also knew the months ahead would be physically brutal: "I knew having two babies inside was going to be really hard on my body. I'm a hairdresser, I stand on my feet 8, 9 hours a day, every single day. So I knew that I needed to take care of my body that's also going to be taking care of them."
As her pregnancy progressed, the pressure of carrying twins caught up with her. She developed numbness in both hands and both hips, the result of where the babies were sitting and the constant strain of standing all day.
How Christa found The Haven
Christa came to us the way so many of our families do, through a friend who wouldn't stop raving. "She has done nothing but rave about coming here and seeing Dr. Hayley," Christa said. Her friend had trusted us through both of her own pregnancies and brought her kids in too.
Still, Christa took her time. "I probably followed her on social media for the longest time before I finally was like, 'Okay, she trusts her... I trust her, so I need to trust this place.'"
"I trusted her instantly"
Walking in nervous and leaving reassured is something we hear again and again at our Indian Trail office, and it matters to us deeply.
"Within the first 15 minutes of being here, I felt like I was talking to a friend that I have known for years. She just has this personality to make you feel safe, to make you feel loved, confident in myself, and I trusted her instantly."
That first adjustment brought immediate, tangible relief. "As soon as I got in the car, I could feel blood flow coming to my fingertips and coming to my feet and my legs," she recalled. The numbness that had become her daily normal began to lift.
The easiest delivery she'd ever had
Our prenatal chiropractic care is about preparing the body, helping the pelvis, nervous system, and surrounding muscles function and balance well so mom is as ready as possible for birth. For Christa, the difference was profound.
"This was by far the easiest delivery I have ever had. The only difference was coming here and seeing Dr. Hayley at The Haven."
Even with Baby A head down and Baby B breech, she was able to deliver both of her boys naturally. "I really believe the only way I was able to have both of my boys naturally was from coming here and just having my body ready and prepared."
The newborn phase: colic, reflux, constipation, and tongue ties
The twins arrived, and so did a whole new season of exhaustion. "We had had numerous nights of them screaming 'cause they both had colic," Christa said. By around four to five weeks old, the picture was overwhelming: colic that started near three weeks, acid reflux, days-long constipation, and tongue ties affecting both babies.
Like a lot of parents, Christa was unsure about pediatric chiropractic. "I didn't know what to expect. How do you adjust this tiny little preemie baby?" she wondered.
What she saw put her at ease right away. Gentle pediatric chiropractic looks nothing like adult adjustments, there's no forceful "cracking" or "popping." "Watching her give them these little baby massages... you could just see them in her arms just melting, because it's taking all the pressure and that stiffness out," Christa said.
What changed for Christa's family
The shifts came fast, and they were the kind every exhausted parent dreams about.
Within about 24 hours of their first adjustment, both twins finally had a comfortable bowel movement after days without one. "Me and my husband both just jumped for joy," Christa laughed. "The things you get excited about when you're a parent."
Then came the moment that still moves her. Both babies had tongue ties, which had made nursing painful and frustrating for weeks, something Christa never knew chiropractic could help support. After gently working to release the tension in the babies' jaws and mouths, everything changed.
"I went home after their first adjustment, and for the first time in five weeks, I was actually able to nurse both of my babies without there being pain, without them struggling."
For a mom navigating postpartum, that relief rippled outward. "I remember feeling so bad that I couldn't nurse them, and I thought it was something I was doing," she said. "Her adjusting them made them so much better, which then made me so much better."
Happy babies, happy life
"Our entire house shifted," Christa said. "They're sleeping better, they're eating better, they're not fussy, they're not screaming. They say 'happy wife, happy life', it is 'happy babies, happy life.'"
"Dr. Hayley will 100% make you feel safe and secure. Her knowledge, everything, just do it. It's the best thing you can do."
How chiropractic supports pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy changes the body dramatically and quickly, and carrying multiples multiplies the load. Prenatal chiropractic uses gentle, specific adjustments to support how the pelvis, spine, and nervous system function during pregnancy. At The Haven, our prenatal care is grounded in advanced ICPA training, I'm Webster Technique and Perinatal certified, with a focus on caring for moms through pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum season.
For babies, the newborn weeks can bring tension that shows up as colic, reflux, gas, trouble with bowel movements, a shallow or painful latch, fussiness at the breast, and the tight jaw and neck muscles often connected to tongue ties or torticollis. Gentle, age-appropriate pediatric chiropractic focuses on easing tension in the nervous system and surrounding muscles so a baby's body can settle, digest, and feed more comfortably. Early research, including a 2009 case series of 114 infants published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeuticshas explored chiropractic care alongside breastfeeding support, though the evidence is still emerging.
To be clear: chiropractic care does not treat, cure, or diagnose colic, reflux, or tongue ties, and it is not a replacement for your OB, midwife, pediatrician, lactation consultant, or the provider who evaluates and revises a tongue tie. Our care is designed to work alongside your family's medical and birth team.
Breastfeeding & newborn questions moms ask
Can a chiropractor help my baby breastfeed or latch better? Gentle pediatric chiropractic does not "fix" a latch directly, but it can release tension in a baby's neck, jaw, and head that may make latching and sucking difficult. When that tension eases, many babies are able to open wider, turn both directions, and feed more comfortably. We work alongside your lactation consultant and pediatrician, not in place of them.
My baby only nurses well on one side, can chiropractic help? A strong side preference, or a baby who only turns their head one way, can be a sign of neck tension or torticollis, often from in-utero positioning or birth. Easing that tension with gentle, age-appropriate care can help a baby use a fuller range of motion so nursing on both sides becomes easier. Always have your pediatrician evaluate persistent torticollis as well.
Can chiropractic help with a tongue tie, and do we still need a release? Pediatric chiropractic does not cut or cure a tongue tie. It addresses the tight jaw, neck, and oral tension that often accompanies one, which can support feeding and bodywork before and after a frenectomy. Whether a release is needed is a decision for your tongue-tie provider, dentist, ENT, and lactation consultant. Many families combine both for the best outcome.
Breastfeeding still hurts, could it be tension and not my technique? Painful nursing isn't always about what mom is doing. A shallow latch, clicking, frequent unlatching, or clamping can stem from muscle tension in the baby's jaw and neck. Releasing that tension is one piece many parents explore alongside hands-on lactation support to make feeding more comfortable.
Can chiropractic help my colicky, gassy, or constipated newborn? Pediatric chiropractic does not treat or cure colic, reflux, or constipation. It gently reduces nervous-system and muscular tension, which can support more comfortable digestion and calmer sleep. As Christa experienced, some families notice changes quickly, but individual results vary.
Is it safe to adjust a newborn baby? Yes. Infant adjustments use feather-light pressure, about what you'd use to check the ripeness of a tomato. There's no twisting, cracking, or popping. Babies often relax or even fall asleep during care, just as Christa described her twins "melting" during their adjustments.
Pregnancy questions moms ask
Is chiropractic care safe during a high-risk or twin pregnancy? Prenatal chiropractic uses gentle, pregnancy-specific techniques and is widely used throughout pregnancy. I'm Webster Technique and Perinatal certified through the ICPA, with training focused on supporting moms in higher-demand pregnancies. Because every pregnancy is different, we always keep your OB or midwife informed and tailor care to you.
What is the Webster Technique? The Webster Technique is a specific, gentle chiropractic approach developed for pregnancy that focuses on balancing the pelvis and reducing tension in the surrounding muscles and ligaments. A balanced pelvis can mean more comfort for mom and more room for baby to get into an optimal position for birth. It's taught and certified through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.
