UNDERSTANDING

Preparing for Labor & Birth

As your due date gets closer, it's natural to want to feel as ready as possible, in your body and your mind. However you're planning to birth, feeling supported and comfortable in these final weeks can make a real difference in how you walk into them.

A body that moves freely and a nervous system that feels settled can help you feel more prepared as birth approaches. The postural changes and tension that build up over pregnancy can leave the pelvis uneven, ligaments tight, and the neck and back uncomfortable. Therefore, supporting balance and ease throughout pregnancy is a gift to yourself through all trimesters.

Signs you might notice

general aches as the due date nears

pelvic tightness or unevenness in pregnancy

planning for a more comfortable labor

wanting to feel more prepared for birth

Can chiropractic help?

Your pelvis is the pathway for birth, and your nervous system coordinates the muscles and ligaments around it. When the pelvis is balanced and those surrounding tissues are relaxed, your body has the most room and ease to work with. Adjustments also help posture as shoulders start to round with expanded breast tissue and the center of gravity moves upwards to compensate for the growing belly.

We use gentle, specific care and the Webster Technique to support balance and freedom of movement through your pelvis as birth approaches, and to help your nervous system feel calm and supported. Chiropractic doesn't induce or manage labor. We support your body's comfort and balance, whatever your birth plan looks like.

Many moms tell us they feel more comfortable in the final weeks and more at ease heading into birth. The Haven was built on advanced ICPA training, including the Webster Technique and Perinatal certification.

What the research says

“I just had my first appointment at The Haven and it was excellent. I’m 31 weeks pregnant and was looking for chiropractic care that would not only relief aches of pregnancy but also get my body in alignment for a natural birth. The owner was so sweet and knowledgeable. She verbally walked me through all her techniques to make me feel comfortable and explain why she was doing certain maneuvers certain ways and their benefits. I would highly recommend and plan to go regularly”

Common questions

How does chiropractic help me prepare for labor and birth?

We use gentle, specific care and the Webster Technique to support balance and freedom of movement through your pelvis and to help your nervous system settle in the weeks before birth. Chiropractic doesn't induce or manage labor. We support your body's comfort and balance, whatever your birth plan looks like.

Is chiropractic safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Prenatal care at The Haven is gentle and low-force, with pregnancy pillows and supportive tables that cradle your changing body, and adjustments tailored to each trimester. Our prenatal care is grounded in advanced ICPA training, including the Webster Technique and Perinatal certification.

When should I start preparing for labor?

Many moms begin care in our office in the first trimester, though care is supportive at any stage. The earlier we support balance and comfort in a rapidly changing body, the more your body can settle into the weeks before birth. It's never too early or too late to start. We see mamas as early as 4 weeks up to baby's arrival.

Can chiropractic induce labor?

No. Chiropractic doesn't induce or start labor. However, what we do is support pelvic balance, comfort, and add additional layers to nervous system ease in the weeks before birth, so you feel as supported as possible, whatever your birth plan looks like.
